Hi - I'm Ruth

I taught maths in secondary schools in the UK for over 11 years before saying farewell to the school system to home school my own kids.

With a passion for maths and learning outside of a traditional school setting, I set up Joyful Maths with Ruth at the start of 2024.

I offer course and workshops for parents looking to support their children in maths without school. As well as lots of free resources and tips to get you started!

These are like no other maths lessons you will have seen before. We work together, in small groups and explore exactly what comes up. Questions, wrong answers and calculators encouraged.

Where to start?

Learning mathematics is not about ages

But I also understand that it can be helpful to have a guide. That is why you will find that all of my ages are "ish". The "ish" is to encourage you to really trust your own intuition for where your child is at and what they are ready for.

Your child is young, exploring through play and physical life.

Head to 10 & under ish

Your child is starting to show signs of being ready for some more formal maths

Head to 9 - 14 ish

Your child is looking at formal qualifications in mathematics

Head to 12 & older ish
